mama’s must-haves: your gift guide to mother’s day

Copy of Foxy FIT.png

I know it’s still April, but Mother’s Day is right around the corner!

Many businesses are suggesting extra processing time for orders, so I’m posting this today as a gentle reminder to plan for the mamas in your life.

As I was brainstorming this article, I was inspired by the incredible women I know. Some have raised kids and are now raising grandkids. Some have lost children. Some can’t have children. Some have four-legged kiddos (and some a grown up child in the form of a spouse). I have always enjoyed recognizing the women in my life who I feel are nurturing, empowering, and strong: that’s what “mom” means to me.

I’ve rounded up gift ideas for your favorite moms to fur- and- human children. Did I miss any of your favorites? Let me know!!

christine — invigorate Tight from lululemon

My sister-in-law is superwoman. She is a teacher, she has four children (7-13), she homeschools (even before covid), and she’s been married to my brother for 15 years (I really feel for her on that. Haha.)

She has posted “Life of the Sequestered Extrovert” on her instagram daily. Her posts are the highlight of my day, because they remind me that I can still be grateful while telling it like it is — which is HARD right now. Am I right?

For a mom like Christine, I’d pick the Invigorate tight from lululemon:

  • fast-drying (she’s been working her butt off alongside her swimmer children)

  • sweat-wicking (they run outside and it was 100 today)

  • has pockets (always a must).

(I must confess this exact tight is on my wish list for Copper and Cinnamon to get for me.)

kate — Wicker goddess art/cards

Kate is a mom of two little boys; they live in Southern California. Kate is an author, a creator, and an empathic woman. She’s also very patient (she’s married to my other brother, after all) and supportive. For a woman like my sister-in-law, Kate, I would choose some original art from Wicker Goddess; hand-drawn creations with positive affirmations. Wicker Goddess also has a variety of sweet, funny, and beautiful greeting cards for any mama in your life.

margaux — feather and cove mom + child bracelets

Mothers Day can be extra difficult for mamas who have lost children. I hesitated to share this, but chose to because so many women have lost children.

We experienced this loss in my family last year. My sweet nephew, Samuel, lived for a little over an hour but has made a permanent impression on my heart. For his mom, my sister, I would chose the handmade custom bracelets by Feather + Cove. Customized for each mom and child, they’re a beautiful and simple reminder to keep his memory alive alongside her 3-year-old son.

cindy — love crew from lululemon

Brian and I have quickly made his mom a lululemon addict. Her favorite go-to is the love crew; whether she is cooking eggs for her grand pups, making pasta by hand, or going out to lunch, the love crew is suitable for all occasions!

carol — simple jane collab

My sister-in-law Carol is a real inspiration. She raised three beautiful humans (her daughters Brittany and Kirsti are incredible women) as a single mom for several years, works full-time in a demanding job, and is raising her grandson Andrew. Somehow she finds time to be supportive and encouraging to the people she loves while keeping it real.

For a woman like Carol, I would splurge on Simple Jane’s collaboration with other badass female entrepreneurs with their special Mother’s Day collab: CBD chocolate, a Jayne collection top (the softest I’ve ever felt), and Simple Jane’s signature pink salt stone heart and CBD oil blend.

If this sounds like a good fit for someone you love, order today to get their pre-sale rate!

leanne — Sage Aubrey gifts

For my friend Leanne, who is the most loving and nurturing woman I have ever met, I know the perfect brand to shop from.

Sage Aubrey is a talented designer who left the fashion industry because she didn’t like how the industry made women feel. So she revolutionized it! She is an avid supporter of women, giving back to female charities and lifting other women businesses up.

Her line celebrates the woman as the icon, rather than the product.

Her bags, her T-shirts, her iconic face masks (yes, friends, they’re amaze), all support finding and celebrating your inner icon.

rebecca — any bag from lululemon

I am lucky to have a lot of incredible female friends. My friend Rebecca is a true ride or die: she’s honest, loyal, and dead smart. She’s a driven attorney, a thoughtful friend, and I don’t know what I would do without her. She is one of the few people who I’ve gotten closer to after my traumatic brain injury, because she has been able to meet me where I’m at every day and except me for who I am every day.

Like many of us, she’s not a mom to humans but she’s a fantastic mom to her fur babies — and sometimes my fur babies too!

For a woman like Rebecca, the entire line of bags from lululemon are kismet. Multi-functional, straightforward, and cute. You can’t go wrong!

My final recommendation is extremely practical: brunch prepped for you by tailored bites!

Rachel of Tailored Bites is a registered dietitian, a heart driven, community driven businesswoman, and a true helper: everything she creates comes from a place of love and offering a solution for the clients she serves.

Her Mother’s Day solution is genius! You can surprise a hard-working woman in your life with this thought for brunch kit (since we know you can’t get reservations these days).

Add rose or champagne, offer to do the cooking and clean up, and you’re golden!

You may notice that I selected several women-owned businesses to support this post.

I do not receive a kickback for highlighting them; I truly adore both the women behind the businesses and the products they offer.

I know you will, too.

i hope these ideas make your week less stressful. Please share with someone who could benefit from these suggestions.

As always, THANK YOU for reading. Your support allows me to do what I love to do! If you love this blog, please subscribe for notifications and share with someone else who would love it too.
