Happy Friday folks!

I’m dubbing today “Feel Good Friday” because it’s been a long week (strike that, it’s been a long YEAR) and we all deserve to feel GOOD in our bodies.

I’m excited to introduce you to a place that’s been helping me to feel good in my body this month.

AND, I’m hosting a giveaway with them!

Meet restore hyper wellness

I heard of Restore last fall. They were building out their space and prepping for a January opening. This was pre covid, which feels like a lifetime ago . . . Brian was asked to be an ambassador, and I was excited to try out their services.

Then 2020 happened.

Fortunately, in August, Devon at Restore reached out to me on Instagram and invited me to come try a couple of services.

Knowing that I could use assistance in recovery as I adapt to the stressors of our “new normal” with covid and my medical issues, I was excited to check out what they had to offer.

So, I made an appointment and the rest is history!

I’ve been chronicling my visits on Instagram, where I share videos, education, and first impressions of each service. I’ve saved them all in a highlight reel, so please run over and check them out!

Simply click the button below which will take you to this screen. Then click on my “Scottsdale Restore Hyper Wellness” highlight and start watching!

What to expect

When you arrive at Restore, you will be greeted by friendly, kind staff! Masks are required while in the building and it’s easy to maintain physical distancing throughout the facility. The facility is clean, peaceful, and thoughtfully set up for maximal relaxation.

Informed consent waivers are required for each service. For all medical services (hyperbaric oxygen therapy, IV drips, etc), a medical screening is performed with a licensed nurse.

The staff is well informed about each modality and super helpful in sharing experiences, tips, and how-to’s.

Services I’ve tried

cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the science of exposing the body to sub-zero temperatures of up to -140°C / -220°F in order to stimulate multiple wellness benefits.

Benefits (being a scientist, I’ve linked peer-reviewed literature for further reading):

Contraindications:

Always check with your physician before trying something new.

  • Certain nerve conditions

  • Diabetes

  • Hypersensitivity to cold (Raynaud’s, etc)

  • Chest pain

I documented Brian’s first ever cryotherapy session.

The Procedure:

I love the CryoScience machine (read about it here) because I got to pick the music, watch a countdown clock, and had privacy to take my robe on and off while keeping the security of having an attendant on the other side of the frosted wall!

Restore has a private changing room attached to the cryotherapy room, which allows privacy and comfort to step into the socks, slippers, and robe Restore provides (with an in-room hamper to drop used items into after!). There’s also a chart that shows which bits need to remain covered in the treatment (hint: areas we do NOT want exposed to the cold).

When you’re ready for the treatment, you simply open the second door where the attendant will help you get surgical gloves and wool mittens on, set your music and give you a pep talk!

If you know me, you know that I hate being cold but for some reason I’m able to do cryotherapy without any issues. I can get through anything for 2.5 minutes! I appreciate having the countdown, knowing that the discomfort is for a short time, and that I am helping my body recover. I also feel very awake after a cryo- therapy session.

Compression therapy

Compression therapy uses controlled pressure to increase blood flow in your legs and improve blood flow to the heart. At the same time, it supports your veins and decreases swelling.

There are many forms of compression therapy. Most commonly seen are compression socks/tights/stockings, and compression wraps. Restore uses NormaTec—a wearable compression device for legs, hips, and arms. NormaTec is extremely popular with my professional athlete clients.

The Procedure:

I prefer to make an appointment for all of my services. When I check in at the front desk, I’m escorted to the compression lounge, with comfortable blue loungers, pink salt lamps and a massage chair!

One of the awesome employees will help you get suited up. You’ll want to have empty pockets and comfortable clothing on (I recommend no zippers or bulky seams).

The attendant will chat with you about time, level of pressure, and check on you sporadically. Then you’re all set!

I wear my noise cancelling headphones and take the opportunity to breathe, catch up on blogging, or simply close my eyes and RESTORE my mind and body. It’s my favorite part.

When my session is finished, Chris or one of the other attendants will shut the machine off, unhook me, and sanitize the sleeves!

Photobiomodulation (pbm) therapy

Full body light therapy, or PBM, is known by many different labels (including red light therapy, low level light therapy, soft laser therapy, cold laser therapy, biostimulation, photonic stimulation, and low-power laser therapy), uses red low-level wavelengths of light to treat skin issues, such as wrinkles, scars, and persistent wounds, among other conditions.

I was excited to start PBM after reading about its benefit to brain injuries.

Benefits:

Contraindications:

Always check with your physician before trying something new.

The Procedure:

One of the attendants will escort you to the PBM room. They start the machine, show you where the timer is, offer a fan (it can get a bit warm), and instruct you to undress when they’ve exited. Then it’s a 16-20 minute treatment. Easy breezy!

Hydrafacial

HydraFacial uses gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing to remove dead skin cells, uncovering a new layer of smoothness.

I tried a HydraFacial because it looked amazing, I hadn’t had a facial since before covid, and it was on sale!

Spoiler alert: I LOVED IT.

Not me. But this is the HydraFacial tool!

Benefits:

  • Cleans out clogged pores.

  • Smoothes skin.

  • Clears skin.

  • Softens skin.

  • Evens complexion.

  • Decreased appearance of wrinkles.

My experience was fantastic. Vivienne, my esthetician, was extremely knowledgeable and taught me so much! You’ll need to go to my instagram and watch the stories for before/afters because it amazed me.
