Recently, I took a survey to find out what topics my readers want to learn about

Thank you so much to all who participated!

A popular topic was immune support. In our world, as we fight COVID-19, it makes so much sense that we want to improve our ability to withstand illness. I’m excited to share three ways I support my immune system daily.

I started this blog because I wanted to serve and connect. I have been given an incredible education on health, fitness, and wellbeing; my passion is to teach others to use these tools for a better life.

I know that transformation doesn’t happen on its own. We need each other to grow, learn, and make the changes we want to see.

By showing up, you are a part of this work and I am thankful for you.

I’m especially thankful to Leanne, Rebecca, Sabrina, Jessie, and Brian for their support of me today.

Three ways to boost your immune system

Now more than ever, immune support is vital. In April, Harvard updated their recommendations for ways to support/boost the immune system (you can read their full recommendations here).

I thought I would share my three favorites with you, since we can all use a little support right now!

the X factor: stress

Physiological, psychological and emotional stress are all factors in our immune system function. That’s one reason I teach my clients stress resilience: a practice of utilizing stress (because we all have it) to bounce back in a healthier way.

Living a healthy lifestyle can strengthen our immune systems. All of the things we know we “should” do, like eating balanced meals, getting good sleep, exercising daily, avoiding alcohol/smoking/drugs, minimizing stress, and practicing good hygiene will all help the immune system function optimally.

Today, I’m sharing three ways I like to support my immune system through stress reduction.

first, healthy diet + supplements

After my traumatic brain injury in 2018, planning/prepping/eating healthy balanced meals became extremely difficult. While I currently work with a registered dietitian, I continue to use supplements to help fill in nutrient gaps.

Since my brain injury and resulting vision loss, I have done everything I can to support my immune system. Dealing with chronic pain and injury is only made worse by getting the flu, or a cold, or covid19, so I do everything I can proactively to stay healthy.

I discovered Medterra CBD about a year ago. I love their CBD Immune Boost because it tastes good, has all natural CBD, vitamin c, elderberry, echinacea and ginger root.

Often, we take immune support supplements when we are already sick. That’s like deciding to train for a marathon when you’re already running it! Supporting my immune health is a daily practice for me, and using Medterra’s Immune Boost CBD means it’s one less pill I have to swallow!

I find that using Medterra’s Immune Boost CBD every day helps me to feel grounded, supported, and confident that I’m doing something simple for my longterm wellbeing.

Second, mindful movement

I like to cross two items off my list at once, and mindful movement is two ways to support my immune function in one!

Mindfulness-based stress reduction has been indicated by research as an effective tool to manage stress and foster resilience. Movement is another proven way to support immune function and decrease stress.

Third, rest / recovery / sleep

I can’t empathize the importance of rest enough. And this is coming from a woman who used to go, go, go 24/7, 365!

When we exercise, we break down our tissues. We need rest (and sleep, and healthy nutrients) to recover to come back stronger. We also need ample rest to support healthy immune function.

One of my favorite ways to build in rest every day is to put my phone away for five minutes, grab a puppy, and focus on our breath. Even five minutes of mindful breathing goes a long way to supporting immune function.

I hope this post helps you to take charge of your health.
